Strongman

Odd-object lifting, loaded carries, and maximal strength under awkward conditions.

Strongman tests strength across a rotating set of events: pressing logs and axles, carrying yokes, loading atlas stones, pulling vehicles. The challenge is expressing strength with heavy, awkward, real-world implements.

What matters most

  • Event practice: the implements (log, yoke, stones, farmer's handles) are specific enough that you train the events themselves, not just gym lifts.
  • Strength plus work capacity: many events are timed or for reps, so conditioning and the ability to repeat efforts matter alongside max strength.
  • Full-body bracing and grip: odd objects load the trunk and hands heavily; grip is often the limiting factor.
  • Carries and locomotion: moving under load is a skill of its own and a staple of the sport.

This is a starting stub. See Grip for the hands and Energy Systems for the demands of timed events.
