Running
Building an aerobic base and durable mileage.
Running is the most accessible endurance sport, and the one where managing load against injury matters most, since every stride is an impact the body has to absorb.
What matters most
- Aerobic base: consistent easy mileage builds the cardiovascular and metabolic foundation that faster work is layered on top of.
- The easy/hard split: most running should be comfortably conversational, with a smaller, deliberate dose of faster work.
- Progressive mileage: volume is increased gradually; jumping it too fast is the classic route to overuse injury.
- Tissue durability: bones, tendons, and connective tissue adapt to impact more slowly than fitness improves, so patience protects you.
This is a starting stub. See Bone and Soft Tissue for why mileage must ramp slowly.
