Grip

Training hand and forearm strength.

Grip training builds hand and forearm strength, a quality that supports nearly every pulling and carrying task, and a competitive pursuit in its own right. Grip isn't one thing; it's several distinct strengths.

What matters most

  • Crush grip: closing the hand against resistance, as in a gripper or a thick handle.
  • Pinch grip: holding a load between thumb and fingers with no hook, as in pinching plates.
  • Support grip: holding a heavy load for time, as in a farmer's carry or a deadlift hold.
  • Wrist and finger strength: extension, flexion, and individual finger work round out a resilient, capable hand.

This is a starting stub. Grip strength underpins Strongman and Armwrestling.
